Symbol of Power

When I was a little girl, I always wondered what it was like to bring an attaché case in school. I always saw my dad bring it to work every day, and when I asked my mom about the funny-looking bag, she told me that it was what people with authority use to bring their important papers and important pens. One day, borrowed one of my dad’s old briefcases and took it to school. I remember being the center of attention because of it, and I also recall acting like I was acting like the boss.

I think it was at that point when I knew that I wanted to be like my dad. That attaché case became sort of a symbol of power for me, and I worked hard until I could have one of my own. When I passed my bar exam, my dad gave me one of his favorite attaché cases, the one I saw him use all those years ago. I knew it was a replica, but I treasured it nonetheless. Even after he passed away, just looking at that attaché case made me feel like he was close by.
