Precautions to Take When Using a Check

Paying through checks may be convenient but the owner should be aware that some people make it their undertaking to outsmart other people. Precautions should be taken when writing a check. The first thing to remember is to never sign blank checks. By writing a blank check you are practically giving permission for the person holding the check to have complete access to your checking account. Not only should you not sign a blank check you should also draw a line through blank spaces.

Another trick in protecting your check is by putting only your initials and last name instead of your full name on the check. If you lose your checkbook, the person who finds it will not know how you sign it. If he has bad intentions, it will not be easy for him to forge your signature. With only your initials in view, he will have to try many kinds of signature. This is a sure way of warning your bank that something is wrong.
